Installing the Service Pack 2 on Windows Server 2008

Objective

This article aims to demonstrate how to install Service Pack 2 on Windows Server 2008 quickly and easily.

What is Service Pack 2?

Service Pack 2 for Windows Server 2008 is an update to Windows Server 2008 compatible with new types of hardware and emerging standards and includes all updates since SP1. SP2 simplifies administration by allowing administrators to deploy, and support a single service pack for clients and servers.

Prerequisites
Ensure that your computer is running Windows Server 2008 withService Pack 1.
You must uninstall any beta version of Service Pack 2 (SP2) before starting the installation of Service Pack 2.
You must have a genuine copy of Windows Server 2008 installed on your computer.
You must have update KB955430 installed on your computer.
Installing the Service Pack 2

1 – Access the URL below to download the Service Pack 2 for Windows Server 2008:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=891ab806-2431-4d00-afa3-99ff6f22448d&displaylang=en (English version).

Note

The url above allows you to download the SP2 Windows Server 2008 for 32-bitversion, which is supported in all languages. To download the SP2 Windows Server 2008 for 64-bit version to access the url below.

In my example I am using an X86 platform, so I’ll be downloading and installingSP2 for Windows Server 2008 x86 English.

2 – Video of the urls above as editing your Windows 2008 Server and download.Will load a picture as shown in Figure 1.1.

3 – After the download is complete double click the file Windows6.0-KB948465-x86.exe or you are using an x64 platform and have downloaded the same double-click Windows6.0-KB948465-X64. exe. Will load a dialog box as shown in Figure 1.2.

4 – Click Next to continue. Will load a dialog box as shown in Figure 1.3.

5 – Select the option I accept the license terms and then click Next. Will load a dialog box as shown in Figure 1.4.

6 – If you leave the option labeled Automatically restart the computer, your computer will reboot automatically after installing SP2. Make your choice and then click Install. After SP2 installation is complete restart the computer will load the dialog box as shown in Figure 1.5.

7 – To check if SP2 was installed on your computer, click Start, and type winverin Start Search and then press Enter. Will load the dialog box as shown in Figure 1.6.
