SQL 2000 SP4 to 2005 In-place Upgrade

If upgrading SQL 200 SP4 to 2005 and you get a failure on the Analzying Upgrade of a -1, and event viewer has this:

  • Source: .NET Runtime 2.0 Error
    EVENTID: 5000
    EventType clr20r3, P1 bpacmd.exe, P2 2005.90.1399.0, P3 434f5c06, P4 bpacmdx, P5 9.0.242.0, P6 434f5c04, P7 7, P8 7a, P9 system.io.filenotfoundexception, P10 NIL.

You need to do the following on the computer you are installing to:

  • Created a new directory called BPAClient at C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapBPA
  • Copy the BPAClient.dll form the C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapBPABin directory into the new directory
  • Restart Installation
